Testing The Seer’s Explanation

When I was in high school I discovered I had a passion for understanding how the world works.  So upon graduation I went off to college to study physics.  Surely, I thought, that most basic of sciences would enable me to fulfill that passion.  That didn’t quite work out the way I expected, but I did come away with a useful understanding of the scientific method.

The scientific method says you come up with a theory about how things work, and then you try to apply it to each new current situation and see if it holds up.  If it doesn’t, you either have to abandon the theory or find a way to modify it so that it does hold up.  The seer’s explanation is just such a theory.  So is the conventional explanation of  reality.

I can’t prove that the seer’s explanation correctly describes the behavior of the Universe, but I contend that you can’t do that with the conventional explanation of its behavior either.

So how does one test the seer’s explanation?  I suggest you can’t do that on the basis of whether or not it might turn out to be true.  This explanation says, among other things, that the Universe always shows up in accordance with one’s expectations.

IF YOU EXPECT IT TO BEHAVE ACCORDING TO THE CONVENTIONAL EXPLANATION, E.G. THAT THE GOOD STUFF (MONEY, FRIENDS, LOVERS, ETC.) IS SCARCE, THEN THAT’S THE WAY IT WILL SHOW UP.

Seen in that light, every explanation will appear to be true!

I suggest further that the only useful way to test the seer’s explanation is to try it out in your own life and see if it leads to an expanded experience of joy and well-being.  But you can’t just say you’re going to expect a more joyful, satisfying life.  You actually have to do the work involved in shifting your expectations.  In this book I cover this topic thoroughly by citing my own struggle to free myself from what I call the tyranny of the conventional explanation.  I won’t tell you it’s easy.  But the effort is immensely fulfilling.  I hope you will share with me your struggle to shed the bonds of conventional wisdom!
